The Story Behind the Art
Part of the 2026 "Legacy" collection, this painting draws inspiration from the Native American pottery collected by the artist's family in Arizona. It was completed as a meditation on healing and focus. The still life features a traditional white ceramic wedding vase—a symbol of unity and balance—resting on a textured Southwestern woven rug. Beside it lies a bundle of white sage, adding an element of organic warmth to the composition.
Painted in the classical "Old Master" style, it is a study in contrasting textures: the smooth, matte finish of the clay against the coarse, intricate weave of the wool. The dramatic chiaroscuro lighting draws the eye to the gentle curves of the pottery while letting the background recede into deep, atmospheric shadow.
